"On High" in Downtown New Haven, Connecticut

Photos of "On High", a large outdoor metal sculpture in downtown New Haven, Connecticut (USA).  This sculpture was created by Alexander Liberman in 1979.  It is located just a short walk from the city green, between Church Street and Orange Street.

Liberman is known for large scale sculptures.  He has works on display at New York's Museum of Modern Art and London's Tate Gallery, amongst other places.

The photo below, with people in the background, lends a sense of scale to the sculpture, which stands 44 feet tall.

Liberman intended the sculpture to evoke the same sense of awe and wonderment that he himself experienced when he went to Saint Peter's Cathedral in Rome.

Cloaked Intention by Albert Paley

Recently a new Sculpture by Albert Paley joined many other sculptures on the RIT campus in Rochester, New York.  This newest addition to RIT's collection of outdoor sculptures is called Cloaked Intention.  Paley is a Rochester based sculptor with at least one other major work already on the RIT campus.

Before this piece was moved to its current location, it spent some time on display in New York City.

Cloaked Intention is close to twenty feet tall and weighs more than four tons.

It is located in the courtyard on the south side of Sustainability Institute Hall.

Sculpture on the RIT Campus

Here's another installment in my series featuring sculptures on the campus of RIT in Rochester, New York.  This is a large metal sculpture, displayed outdoors.

 I do not know who created this sculpture, its title, or when it was installed.  It is located in the northwestern part of the campus.

 

As the photo above indicates, its location is close to the Vignelli Center for Design Studies building.

I'll add the name of the building pictured in the background as soon as I find out what it is.

Infinity, The Sculpture

This sculpture, which I believe is titled Infinity, can be found on the campus of RIT in Rochester, NY.  When viewed from the correct angle, the metallic portion on top forms the infinity sign.  Occasionally one may observe the infinity sign in the shadow it casts as well.

 

I have been told the the metal portion on top slowly spins.  I can verify that I have seen it in different positions, but if it spins automatically, it is so slow as to be imperceptible. 

Personally, it reminds me of a bottle opener.

 I do not know who the sculptor is, or when it was installed, but it would be great if someone would tell me in the comments below.
